STRIDE

STRIDE is a fun afterschool character development program for boys. The boys look forward to time with their friends and making new friends. Throughout the program, the focus is on doing one’s personal best, not competing with each other. Each STRIDE team meets twice a week for 10 weeks. The practices are generally held after school and last for 75 minutes. Trained volunteer coaches start each session with an introduction of the day’s character-building lesson, followed by a warm-up, group discussion, running workout and interactive games. In each session, the boys build the stamina, techniques and confidence to run a 5K. Boys who demonstrate excellent character are rewarded with a STRIDE dog tag at the end of the lesson. At the conclusion of the ten-week session, the boys celebrate by participating in a 5K with their coaches, parents and running partners.

Bring STRIDE to your school – Site Interest Application

Thank you for your interest in bringing a STRIDE program to your local school or facility!

We are eager to expand our programming and reach more boys with our message. In order for our program to grow and succeed, we require a strong and active commitment from our local site partners. The following things are required of all sites interested in becoming a STRIDE location:

  • All sites are required to recruit two coaches to serve as coach mentors and implement the STRIDE curriculum at their location. Coaches must be men 18 years of age or older. Coaches application can be found on our website. The STRIDE program will be responsible for training, communicating with, and providing all the materials your coaches will need to confidently implement the program.
  • All sites must identify a specific Site Contact who is responsible for communicating with the STRIDE Program Manager, identifying days and times of programming, helping to publicize the program at their location, and signing the program agreement. Site Contacts may also be asked to serve as a substitute at their location.
  • All sites are asked to help identify boys in need of financial assistance to participate in our program. We provide up to 2 scholarships at any location. You may request more if a need is identified. (The Stride registration fee is $99. Scholarships are offered on a sliding scale ranging from $50-$75 depending on financial information provided by the family.)

If you feel your site can commit to our program expectations, please fill out the form below. Our Program Manager will contact you within a week of receiving your Interest Application to set up a site visit. We accept Site Interest Applications throughout the year. DEADLINE for Fall 2016 Season Applications: May 30, 2016.
